Hey everybody!
It's been a crazy and exciting week for me! A good friend told me about an open long term substitute position at his school, so I emailed the principal and set up a meeting time with her. At first I did not think I would be able to make the position work because it would be starting mid-April. Although, after a talk with my adviser, I found out that it could be done! So I emailed the principal back, and she got it approved. Now instead of having my second student teaching placement take place in first grade in a school thirty minutes away, I will be doing my second placement as a long term substitute in third grade at a school less than ten minutes away from my house. I could not be happier!
I will get three weeks with the classroom teacher before she leaves for the rest of the year. I am beyond excited for this experience, and I hope that it leads me to a job at the same school next year!
As for this student teaching placement, I have learned so much from these fifth graders. They are a great group of students, and I hope that I have taught them just as much as they have taught me. Sadly, I only have two more weeks with them :(
